I don’t expect that you’ve even noticed that I’ve been away from the blog for awhile, but if you’ve been wondering what’s up and where I’ve gone, here’s a little run down (what inquiring minds might want to know).
On the Business Front
Our small independent brokerage, Broadpoint Properties, still continues to grow. In the last 18 months or so, we’ve added some new and highly motivated agents, updated our website and our logo, launched an international division, moved our headquarters down the street to a new and totally updated location, and doubled the size of our property management division (among other things).
In addition to the brokerage, you may recall that I also run two companies that provide business-to-business services to agents and brokerage houses. Our Transaction 911 transaction coordinating and compliance service is still firing at full speed; we’re in the process of updating the website and working on doing some additional hiring and business-building there. And, our Short Sale Expeditor services continue to move right along; since SSE is a business that shines when the economy is weak, we are gearing up for another run after our original successful stint, which took us up to a total of 9 full-time negotiators during the Great Recession.
The Pipeline Planner (the planner I launched via Kickstarter in 2016 and which has sold thousands of copies) can be purchased on the website, and orders come in for that daily; my staff diligently works to ship those orders out same day. And, my other books are available for sale on Amazon. I also continue to conduct quarterly webinars for CRS (now RRC) and attend local and national conferences and meetings.
All Things Personal
On a personal note, my kids are pretty much all grown up and don’t live at home. But as many parents likely experience, our days are often filled providing support and advice of a much different nature than previously when we nagged about homework and chauffered to after-school activities. My older son turned pro for Slave Skateboards (you can buy a board with his name on it), and my younger son entered his senior year at the University of Utah (#goUtes). My husband and I have gone on a number of very interesting trips, including two trips to Europe, a trip to China and Hong Kong, and several jaunts to Mexico. In just a few weeks, we will be hiking the Inca Trail (please pray that I can keep up with the group).
But, most importantly, why haven’t I produced any new content for the blog for several months? Well, that’s a good question. For me, the blog is and always was all about education and providing support to agents. There are about 200 articles on the blog covering a wide range of topics from how to clean your desk to how to negotiate with a difficult listing agent. I think I’d gotten to a point where I felt I was beginning to repeat myself. My mantra “just do it” (h/t Nike) became filled with snark. Like a mother always yelling at the kids to clean their rooms, I began to feel like I was repeating many of the same sound bites over and over again, and it was becoming a bit dull. So, with the help of my marketing and branding team, we’ve worked on some new ideas and new direction.
Rumi is known to have said, “Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
It is my hope that the new content I provide moving forward will help you to change yourself and be the best that you can be.
P.S. Forgot to mention (but seems important to many)… now I have straight hair, thanks to modern concoctions and unhealthy chemicals. Pictures to follow.
